AML Senior Advisor to Speak at 5th Global Congress on Counterfeiting and Piracy in Cancun, Mexico, 1 - 2 December, 2009

The 5th Global Congress on Combating Counterfeiting and Piracy will be held in Cancun, Mexico on 1 – 3 December 2009. Ms Paula Nelson, Senior Advisor to Africa Matters Limited (AML) will be among the guest speakers. She will be a panelist to the session; “Africa case Study” on 2 December and will be considering the health and safety risks counterfeit products pose to consumers.
The Africa case study panel will examine the daunting challenges and risks of the rising number of counterfeit medicines that are increasingly being found in markets in Africa. Paula Nelson, will share the recent anti counterfeiting activities in which AML has been involved both with the governments and private sector in East Africa. One such activity was in February, 2009, where AML jointly hosted with the Government of Uganda, an anti counterfeiting workshop in Kampala. Some of the insights and actions arising from this workshop will be shared at the Cancun congress.
Baroness Lynda Chalker in her capacity as Chairman of Board of the Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) and Trustee of the Investment Climate Facility for Africa (ICF), has been involved in anti counterfeiting activities, which have included various meetings and conferences.
