David Barclay

David is Chairman and a Non-Executive Director at AML. David has very extensive international business experience in energy and chemicals business sectors.  He enjoyed a 25 year career in Shell, managing on the spot substantial investments in developing countries and heading up international business units from London.  He was also Chief Executive of Petrochem Carless, a speciality oil and chemicals company exporting products globally.  In addition to his big business experience, David has chaired successful ventures in diverse fields such as financial services, forestry and high tech fields.  He is Chair of Cranfield Trust, which provides business expertise to improve the performance of charities in the UK and overseas.



Ross Alexander

Ross is the Chief Executive Officer at AML. This role has required him to manage all of AML’s current and past client relationships across several sub-Saharan African countries; ensuring that AML delivers value and results for clients. Since joining AML in 2010/11, Ross has worked extensively in Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, Mozambique and Uganda in particular. He has a strong understanding of business and politics in Africa and a significant network across the continent. Ross has particular knowledge of the Oil and Gas industry across the continent and also specialises in the fast moving consumer goods sector. Ross previously worked at PepsiCo and has a background in the UK private sector, specialising in business development, marketing and management.


Charlie-GarnettCharlie Garnett

Charlie is the Chief Operating Officer at AML. He is responsible for AML’s work in Mozambique, Uganda, and Malawi, and has a good understanding of other countries across the sub-Saharan region more generally. Charlie works with FTSE 100 clients from the agricultural, mining and oil and gas sectors, as well as working with our private equity clients and their portfolio companies. He has helped several international corporations with their business strategy and government relations in some of the fastest growing markets in Africa. Charlie joined AML in 2009 after completing a MSc in African Politics at the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies. Prior to this Charlie worked for Blue Skies Holdings, an international fruit export company, where he was responsible for business development in Ghana, Egypt, South Africa and Brazil.

Finance Director

Tim is Finance Director and a Non-Executive Director at AML.

Tim is a Chartered Tax Adviser with considerable experience of senior management roles at consulting businesses.  Apart from founding and building his own successful tax consulting business, Tim has held important roles at KPMG and Watson Wyatt (now Willis Towers Watson).  Throughout his career he has travelled extensively and worked with businesses of all sizes.
